The Best Disco Elysium Build And Starting Stats
The opening of Disco Elysium thrusts plenty of stats, skills, and choices upon new players, but what is the best build you can pick?
First Published April 7, 2023, 17:18
Builds in Disco Elysium are about as massively open-ended as the range of choices and paths players can take throughout their time in Revachol. Yet, given its roots in tabletop gaming and custom role-playing being the guts of the entire game, the widely-acclaimed and GOTY-winning CRPG experience will forever have players debating the best possible stats and options to choose from as they seek to solve the murder in Martinaise as one of Jamrock’s finest supercops.
In this guide, we’ll cover the best way to go about choosing your stats and character build in Disco Elysium to help weave your way through the many skill checks and dialogue trees, so let’s get right into it.

The Best Builds to Start with in Disco Elysium
When starting a new game in Disco Elysium, you’re presented with three archetype builds that act as presets, along with the option to make an entirely custom build. It’s firstly most important to remember that there’s no “wrong” choice to make here, the beauty of the world of Disco Elysium is the range of choices available to a player no matter how they choose to interact.
Now, plenty of players will obviously find it quickest to jump in with one of the three presented builds, which are as follows:
Thinker - This is your standard Intelligence build, where facts are your friends.
Sensitive - This is the Emotion build, where you’ll be in touch with both yourself and the people you meet in Revachol.
Physical - Exactly what it says on the tin, except a Physical player likely can’t read what it says on the tin.
You will of course have plenty of fun with these archetypes, and creating your own custom build in a similar (or utterly chaotic) vein will yield equally appealing results. However, that doesn’t guarantee that you’ll have the optimal chances to engage with as many of the game’s dice roll skill checks and dialogue options.
What is the True ‘Best Starting Build’ for Disco Elysium?
In our recommendation, and as truly mundane as it may seem to begin with as you wake up naked and alone in The Whirling Rags, the best stats to start with are the following:
Hear us out - to truly make yourself as capable a cop in Martinaise or in any role-playing experience, the term “best” often will align itself with a Jack-of-all-Trades build, and lining up each of your stats to be decent at everything at once will give you the best opportunities to engage with Disco Elysium’s early game and find your feet.
As you gain experience throughout the game by engaging in skill checks and completing tasks from your journal, you’ll unlock a skill point upon each level up. This is where the real Disco Elysium begins, as you’ll be in charge of curating your character build from this point across the 24 skills, each of which will be tested throughout the game. So, don’t sweat the small stuff and choose what feels right and the most fun to you - that’s disco, baby!
